Bernadette Koranteng

Bernadette, a Figurative Artist from Jarrow, now based in Tantobie, County Durham, is best known for her atmospheric charcoal and pastel figure drawings and mixed-media narrative paintings. With exhibitions in venues such as the National Portrait Gallery, Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Academy, her work also features in a number of private collections. Having explored many themes over the years, her collages incorporate real items like tickets, magazine cuttings, fabrics and small objects which serve to give the impression of little fragments of life, hint- ing at the story behind. Abstract areas contrast with realistic detail. Images are built-up slowly in layers with oil glazes to create a rich texture and luminous colour.

"I want to create an atmosphere of intimacy which viewers can relate to."
