Kath Woollen

First and foremost I am a wife, mother and grandmother, living and working in South East Northumberland.  I am a born and bred “Geordie”, having lived all my life in the North East of England, but have ancestry going back on my mother’s side to Cumbria, in particular Penrith, Carlisle and Caldbeck, and to Scotland and The Borders on my father’s side. A true Northerner!

Painting and drawing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, although I followed a career in many other areas, including a managerial role in Public Relations for a large global company.  I only returned to painting in earnest after taking early retirement in 2006 following a personal tragedy, and discovering that I could find a certain degree of solace in my art.

I have no formal art qualifications or professional training and am largely self-taught. My "artistic style" is quite varied and I guess I would describe it as being "instinctive" and "from the heart".

Most of my artwork is inspired by the Northumbrian/Cumbrian landscape and coastline, I mainly use Watercolours, Pastels and Acrylics to paint my often impressionistic and dramatic interpretation of these unique and awe-inspiring regions, but have recently rediscovered my love of oil paints, and am using them more and more.

My artwork is currently being exhibited at several Galleries in Northumberland, and I am often an Exhibitor at the Alnmouth Arts Festival in Alnmouth, Northumberland, held every June.

As well as being an Artist, I am also an experienced Art Tutor and Workshop Facilitator.
