Paul Stangroom

Paul Stangroom

Paul Stangroom is drawn to the stark landscape of the North Pennines and works to capture the majesty and magic of this wild terrain in his finely detailed watercolours.
Paul grew up in Washington (Tyne and Wear) and watched as small mining villages, surrounded by woods and farms, were torn down or infilled with factories and new houses. This made him acutely aware of how quickly things of real value can be lost. Trips to the moors and dales of the North Pennines fostered a love of the remote landscapes he now seeks to capture.

Paul won the Royal Watercolour Society Award in 2009 and works from his gallery in Prudhoe, Northumberland.

‘My paintings are a response to the beautiful and often stark landscape of the North Pennines – from broad views of the moors, fells and streams, to more intimate views glimpsed through windows in abandoned dwellings.’
